Researchers at Central Connecticut State University ranked Austin the 16th most literate city in the United States for 2008. In addition, the University of Texas at Austin operates the seventh-largest scholastic library in the country. Austin was voted “America’s No. 1 College Town” by the Travel Channel. Over 43 percent of Austin homeowners age 25 and over hold a bachelor’s degree, while 16 percent hold an academic degree. In 2009, higher Austin ranked eighth amongst cities in the United States for bachelor’s degree achievement with nearly 39 percent of area people over 25 holding a bachelor’s degree.
Austin is house to the University of TX at Austin, the flagship institution of the University of Texas System with over 38,000 undergraduate trainees and 12,000 college students. In 2019 rankings, the university was ranked 49th among “National Universities” by U.S. News & World Report.] UT has annual research study expenditures of over $600 million and has the highest-ranked organisation, engineering, and law programs of any university in the state of Texas.

Public main and secondary education
The Austin location has 29 public school districts, 17 charter schools and 69 independent schools. Most of the city is served by the Austin Independent School District. This district includes noteworthy schools such as the magnet Liberal Arts and Science Academy High School of Austin, TX (LASA), which, by test scores, has routinely been within the top thirty high
